The EIA reports that biomass-based diesel RIN prices peaked at $1.91 per gallon on April 28, 2022, and ethanol RINs peaked at $1.68 on June 7. RIN prices have risen back near record levels set in 2021.
The increase reflects both biofuel costs above petroleum fuel and RFS targets outpacing market-driven consumption.
Higher RIN prices raise the cost of compliance and signal strong demand for biofuels, supporting soybean oil and corn-based ethanol values. Continued RFS pressure keeps blending economics tight.
