The U.S. biofuels industry is urging EPA to raise Renewable Volume Obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard through 2025. Clean Fuels Alliance says the proposal's biomass-based diesel increase of 50 million gallons falls well short of the roughly 500 million gallons per year of market demand it sees, and that the proposal ignores expanded soybean crush capacity.
Higher RVOs would lift mandated demand for soybean oil and other feedstocks used in biomass-based diesel. A final rule below industry expectations would limit that demand growth and weigh on soyoil prices.
