A severe drought and export caps are limiting Argentine farmers' ability to benefit from higher wheat and soy prices caused by the Ukraine conflict. Argentina's 2021/22 wheat crop was 22.1 million tonnes, with 15.5 million already sold and under 1 million tonnes left for export.
US wheat and corn futures rose by their daily limits, and soybeans reached their highest level since 2012.
Argentina's limited wheat and soy availability removes a supply source at a time when Black Sea disruption is already tightening world grain markets, keeping prices firm.
