US corn, soybean and wheat futures fell sharply on May 19, 2021, as crude oil dropped and investment funds liquidated bullish positions. CBOT soft red winter wheat fell 2.4% to its lowest in nearly a month.
Corn slipped despite a Chinese purchase of 1.36 million tonnes.
Liquidation by speculators after a crude oil selloff can force sharp, fast price declines across grains. Large expected US and EU wheat harvests add further downward pressure.
