Cash calf and feeder cattle prices were mainly steady to higher early in the week, then lost ground as it progressed. Feeder cattle futures fell an average of 4.93 while corn futures rose, and drought concerns weighed on grass cattle demand.
USDA raised its forecast for feeder steer prices for the rest of the year.
Higher feed costs and drought-driven pressure on cattle demand weigh on feeder cattle values, while higher corn prices raise feeding costs. The upward USDA price forecast partly offsets this bearish tone.
