EIA data showed US working gas storage rose 120 Bcf in the week ending June 19, well above the 107 Bcf consensus and the five-year average of 73 Bcf. Storage now stands 466 Bcf above the five-year average.
Henry Hub contracts fell sharply, with July down nearly 9 cents.
A larger-than-expected storage build signals a looser gas balance and bearish near-term prices. Cheaper gas lowers power and fertilizer input costs.
