Top wheat importers in Asia, the Middle East and Africa are struggling to secure Black Sea supplies as attacks on vessels and port infrastructure have brought cargo movements to a near standstill since July. Chicago wheat futures have climbed 40% from June lows to a three-and-a-half-year high.
Lost Black Sea export flows force importers into alternative origins, lifting physical wheat prices and raising food inflation risk for vulnerable consumers. Feed wheat costs are pushed higher as buyers scramble for substitutes.
