Sanctions on Russia by the United States and its allies pushed up prices of oil, metals, wheat and other commodities. Investors feared the combination would worsen already high inflation while slowing global growth.
Russia is a major wheat and grain exporter, so sanctions-driven supply risk lifts wheat and corn prices and raises feed grain costs. Higher crude prices also raise energy and freight costs across the feed chain.
