The FAO Food Price Index averaged 180.5 points in February 2020, down 1.0% from January but 8.1% above a year earlier. Cereal prices fell 0.9%, with all major cereals except rice declining, while vegetable oil prices dropped 10.3% led by a 12% fall in palm oil.
Weaker vegetable oil and maize prices reduce input costs for feed compounders, while firm rice prices signal tightness in Asian and American export supplies.
