Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Ukrainian domestic poultry led several countries to halt imports, with lost trade estimated at about UAH150 million a month. Ukraine's poultry meat exports to the EU, about a quarter of the total, have been halted, pushing more chicken onto the domestic market.
Lost export outlets in Ukraine add supply to the domestic market, which pressures local chicken prices lower. Reduced poultry output also trims local feed grain demand modestly.
