Indonesian farmers say the European Parliament's move to ban palm oil in biofuels threatens their incomes. The ban follows a British grocer's decision to stop using palm oil over environmental concerns.
Europe was among the biggest palm oil consumers, with about half of its palm oil use last year going to biofuels.
Losing the EU biofuel market would reduce demand for palm oil and push prices down. Lower prices would ease vegetable oil costs for feed buyers but hurt producer margins.
