A USDA deputy chief meteorologist says a weak La Niña has produced better-than-expected growing conditions in South America. Argentina's dry start was offset by recent rains, and Brazil's corn and soybean prospects are good so far.
USDA FAS projects a slightly smaller 2017 Argentine soybean crop and a bumper corn crop.
A large Southern Hemisphere harvest would add export supply to the market and put downward pressure on US soybean and corn prices, especially once South American exports ramp up in spring.
