Farm groups including the American Farm Bureau and National Farmers Union asked House and Senate budget committees for extra farm bill spending beyond baseline. The letter cites low commodity prices and USDA projections of continued low prices into 2018.
If extra funding is secured, it would cushion farm income and sustain planted acreage despite weak prices, but funding is not yet approved and the effect on grain prices is indirect.
