S&P Global analyst Gary Hornby argues the US natural gas system is tightening, with 2016 output falling for the first time since 2005 while demand from power generation, Mexico pipeline exports and LNG rises. Weather-sensitive demand could create regional or national imbalances.
A tighter US gas balance would lift Henry Hub, which sets the floor for US LNG export pricing and therefore European and Asian gas prices. Feed-relevant impact is indirect, via natural gas costs for fertilizer and ethanol plants.
