A study using past climate data models Illinois field working days under three climate scenarios through the coming century. It projects wetter springs that could push planting earlier, and hotter, drier summers that raise the risk of kernel abortion, which can cut corn yield by up to half.
The findings concern long-term yield risk rather than the current crop, so they have little direct effect on near-term feed grain prices.
