ECB Executive Board member Peter Praet, speaking in Sofia, said unconventional measures have ended deflation risks and the euro-area recovery is broadening. Real GDP grew 1.7% year-on-year in Q1 2017, above potential growth of about 1%.
Strengthening euro-area growth supports the case for eventual ECB tightening, which tends to firm the euro and soften the dollar, a modest tailwind for dollar-priced commodities.
