Chinese demand for Australian feed barley and mid-protein wheat has been strong this season and has supported grower prices. Shipments of Australian barley to China fell to about 200,000 tonnes in April, down from roughly 700,000 t per month earlier in the year, as some Chinese interest shifted to Ukraine.
Robust Chinese feed grain purchases help clear Australia's large export surplus and underpin barley and wheat values. The shift of some demand to Black Sea origin could soften Australian prices as the new crop approaches.
