The Australian dollar finished July up about 4 per cent against the US dollar and held near 80 US cents. Traders were focused on the RBA decision due that day, with no change in the cash rate expected.
US crude rose to two-month highs above US$50 a barrel, and Chinese iron ore rose about 8 per cent.
Broad US dollar weakness and higher crude support commodity-linked currencies and can lift energy-linked input costs, which feed through to feed and ingredient prices.
