India's Food Minister said there are no immediate plans to raise the 10% wheat import duty imposed in March to curb shipments after record 2016-17 output of about 97.44 million tonnes. Domestic supplies are described as adequate, with government procurement at 30.8 million tonnes.
Keeping the duty in place limits Indian wheat import demand, which is mildly bearish for world wheat prices, while Australian and Ukrainian prices have risen on tighter supply.
