India's agricultural exports fell 22% between 2013-14 and 2016-17 while imports rose 62%, cutting the farm trade surplus by 70%. Newly appointed commerce minister Suresh Prabhu said the government will soon announce a policy to boost farm exports.
A policy push to lift Indian farm exports could eventually increase demand for Indian grain, oilseed and feed-related commodities on world markets, though no immediate price shock is indicated.
