Shipments of new-crop soybeans toward the Gulf remain slowed by low water in some areas, high water in others, and service issues. The Ohio River at Lock and Dam 52 reopened October 16 after nearly a week closed, leaving a backlog of nearly 60 vessels and over 650 barges, following a separate Lock 53 closure on October 2.
Repeated lock outages create queues that delay soybean movement to export terminals, supporting barge freight and keeping harvest-time soybean basis weak as supplies build inland.
