The Guyana Rice Development Board says 2017 rice exports reached 535,843 tonnes by December 18, close to surpassing 2015 and above 2016's 500,000 tonnes. Export earnings are nearly US$200 million, helped by higher global rice prices.
Strong Guyanese export volumes add modest supply to global rice markets, and higher global prices are supporting the sector's earnings.
