An economic commentary says South Africa has rejoined the emerging-market group, with the JSE and the South African component of the EM index gaining over 40% in dollar terms since January 2017. The rand is about 4% stronger than a basket of emerging-market peers, helped by a weaker US dollar.
A weaker dollar and stronger emerging-market currencies lower dollar-denominated import costs for emerging-market feed buyers. The commentary points toward possible South African rate cuts but has no direct effect on feed commodity prices.
