The USDA raised its estimate for 2017/18 global wheat production to a record 755 million metric tonnes, its fifth consecutive annual increase. US wheat ending stocks were raised by 25 million bushels on lower exports, with Canadian competition cited.
Analysts expect prices to face pressure in 2018 from ample supplies and competition among major exporters.
Record global output and heavier competition from Canada, Russia and the EU point to continued pressure on wheat export prices. Feed buyers can expect cheap wheat to remain a substitute for corn in rations.
