Malaysia's plantation minister said the European Parliament's vote to phase out palm oil in biofuels by 2021 is discriminatory and that Malaysia could retaliate against EU goods. Malaysia exports about two million tonnes of palm oil to Europe, over 30% of it used for biodiesel.
Kuala Lumpur said it would first seek dialogue and could take the case to the WTO.
A future EU biofuel palm oil ban would remove a large export outlet, threatening palm prices, though the phase-out is years away and the outcome is uncertain.
