Riceland Foods says the US has fallen to sixth in world rice trade with about a 7% share, while US imports now supply about 20% of the domestic market. Riceland argues that US milled rice is $150-$200 per ton more expensive than rivals, leaving US exports at a disadvantage.
High US costs and rising imports limit export demand for US rice, so price gains depend on Asian quotes rising substantially.
