China announced an additional 25 percent tariff on 106 US products, including soybeans, following a 25 percent tariff on US pork from April 1. Analysts estimate the soybean tariff would raise US soybean prices 30-35 percent and add about 3.5 percent to Chinese hog production costs.
A 25 percent duty on US soybeans would divert Chinese demand to Brazil and raise hog feed costs, pressuring US soybean prices while supporting Brazilian soy and altering soymeal flows.
