The South Asian Climate Outlook Forum forecasts normal southwest monsoon rainfall for June to September 2018 over most of South Asia, with above-normal rain likely in parts of east-central India and below-normal rain in some southern, northwestern and northeastern areas. The forecast cites a prevailing weak La Niña giving way to neutral conditions.
A normal monsoon supports India's kharif rice, pulses and oilseed crops, keeping export supply expectations steady and limiting upward pressure on rice prices.
