Mexico's president issued a decree on December 31, 2020, phasing out genetically modified corn for human consumption by January 2024 and banning glyphosate. The National Corn Growers Association chairman called it a serious threat to American agriculture and a relationship unlike anything seen before.
Mexico is a top export market for U.S. corn, so a phase-out of GM corn could reduce U.S. export demand and weigh on corn prices.
