Pig farmers in Henan province are cutting soybean meal use from about 20% to 10% of feed formulas in response to rising soybean pulp prices tied to the Sino-US trade conflict. Soybean pulp prices rose 3.7% year on year in early July, and China imported 32.85 million tons of U.S. soybeans in 2017.
Substitution away from soy meal in Chinese feed reduces demand for soybean meal and imported soybeans, which is bearish for those products and supports alternative feed ingredients.
