Vietnam reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N6 bird flu in backyard flocks in Nghe An and Hai Phong, detected between July 28 and July 30. About 1,000 birds died and the remaining birds were culled.
The source of the disease is unknown.
Backyard outbreaks are small in scale and unlikely to shift commercial feed demand or prices. The story is mainly a disease-monitoring signal.
