President Trump ordered 10% tariffs on roughly $200 billion of Chinese imports, effective September 24, rising to 25% at the start of next year. The won weakened sharply against the dollar in response, while the Kospi closed slightly higher.
Trump also said further tariffs would follow if China retaliated, and China warned of its own tariffs on $60 billion of US goods.
Escalating tariffs raise the risk of Chinese retaliation against US farm exports, including soybeans and feed grains, which can pressure US feed prices. A stronger dollar against Asian currencies also shifts import costs for feed-importing buyers.
