USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue said on Monday the department does not plan to extend the up to $12 billion farm aid package into 2019. The aid is meant to offset farmer losses from retaliatory tariffs, and the first $6 billion tranche was outlined in August.
Without an extension, farm income support fades after the current window, which could weigh on farmer demand for feed and on sentiment for row crops and livestock margins tied to tariff-hit exports.
