Researchers at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid used sea surface temperature data and teleconnection patterns to build seasonal forecasts for corn and wheat yields in the Iberian Peninsula. The work shows how ocean signals can inform crop simulations three to four months ahead.
This is a regional research study with limited direct effect on global feed grain prices. It mainly reflects the growing use of climate forecasting in yield modeling.
