The American Dairy Coalition's chief executive asked President Trump to act to reduce about 1.4 billion pounds of surplus US cheese in cold storage. Cheese exports to Mexico are reported down 10 percent and to China down 65 percent due to retaliatory tariffs.
The letter cites milk prices at record lows.
A government cheese purchase or drawdown would cut surplus stocks and could support cheese and milk prices. The tariff-driven export losses remain a bearish force on dairy demand unless trade issues are resolved.
