Cornell economist Charles Nicholson warned that tariffs on Chinese, Canadian and Mexican goods, combined with mass deportations and lower food spending, could cut U.S. dairy farm profits by $6 billion over four years. Trump had said after his inauguration that he would impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada from February 1 and a 10% tariff on China.
Retaliation from major U.S. dairy export markets would reduce export demand and pressure U.S. milk prices.
