African swine fever has spread to Haiphong and Thanh Hoa provinces in Vietnam, after earlier detections in two other provinces. China confirmed new outbreaks in Hebei and Inner Mongolia, and authorities have culled the pigs on affected farms.
Pork accounts for about 75% of meat consumption in Vietnam.
Losses in Vietnam and China cut pork supply and reduce demand for feed grains and meal, which is bearish for corn and soymeal. Lower hog numbers support lean hog prices in the near term.
