Excess rainfall has delayed corn planting in northern and central Argentina, and some farmers fear plants in parts of Santiago del Estero may not survive the wet conditions. Rainfall reached 300 mm in January alone compared with a typical annual total of 800 mm in that area.
Planting delays and waterlogging risk reduce potential Argentine corn yields, which can support corn prices, though the extra moisture has also boosted yields in some areas.
