US gas companies announced deals at the LNG2019 conference in Shanghai to sell a combined 4.5 million tons per year of LNG from proposed multi-billion dollar projects. Nearly all of the volume was sold without a link to the Henry Hub benchmark.
Long-term US LNG export contracts expand the market for American gas and build new export capacity, but deals priced away from Henry Hub weaken its role as a benchmark. The effect on feed-ingredient prices is indirect.
