China's swine herd has suffered heavy losses from African swine fever since August 2018, with conservative estimates at least 20 percent of annual pork capacity lost. Losses could reach 150 million pigs and 25 to 30 billion pounds of pork over six to 12 months, and meat prices in China and globally are rising.
