Saudi Arabia remains closed to Canadian wheat and barley shipments following a diplomatic dispute last August, which previously absorbed about 135,000 tonnes of Canadian barley annually. Alberta Barley says other markets, including China, have taken up the volume amid tight global supply.
Losing the Saudi outlet is offset by strong demand from China and others, so the impact on Canadian barley prices is limited.
