Natural gas and coal prices have fallen sharply this year, while oil has recovered. European and Asian LNG spot prices are down more than 50% from their September peak.
The World Bank attributes the decline to weak demand and a sharp rise in LNG exports from the US and Australia.
Rising LNG export capacity and weak demand are pushing global gas prices lower, which weighs on energy input costs for feed and processing. Prices are expected to recover somewhat as demand improves.
