The Renewable Fuels Association CEO told Reuters that U.S. ethanol producers are looking to import Brazilian and Argentine corn because wet Midwest weather has slowed planting and pushed corn to five-year highs. Agroconsult reported talk of trades to both U.S. coasts, though no actual trades were confirmed.
Some ethanol output could be idled if the corn supply issue persists.
Potential imports of South American corn would add supply to the U.S. market and partly offset the planting-driven shortfall, while idled ethanol capacity would cut corn and DDGS demand. The net effect depends on how quickly planting recovers.
