The Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery, the largest on the U.S. East Coast, was damaged by a June 20 explosion and is set to close in August. The operator filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 21, and the closure is expected to substantially tighten East Coast and Atlantic Basin refined product markets.
Loss of East Coast refining capacity tightens regional diesel and gasoline supply, pushing up fuel and freight costs for U.S. feed buyers.
