China's agriculture ministry says African swine fever is under control and hog production can return to normal, backed by aid, subsidized loans and insurance. Analysts doubt the claim, citing under-reporting, and USDA estimates China's hog herd will shrink 21 percent in 2019 and a further 10 percent in 2020.
A continued shrinking herd and government rebuilding support point to lower feed demand for a time but a potential recovery in pork output that would later lift feed grain and meal demand.
