NGOs published a briefing calling on the EU to adopt mandatory supply chain due diligence covering deforestation, forest degradation and human rights. It follows a July 2019 Commission communication on protecting the world's forests.
The briefing also urges due diligence for financial institutions.
Advocacy for mandatory due diligence on soy, palm oil, beef and cocoa would add compliance burden for imports if adopted, but it is advocacy rather than a binding decision.
