Proposal for deforestation labeling catches fire at the Commission

POLITICO reports the European Commission is discussing labeling products by deforestation risk as a response to Amazon fires. Options under consideration also include due diligence schemes and revamped market designs, and talks remain at an early stage.

重要性

Any future EU deforestation labeling or due diligence rules could raise compliance costs for soy and palm oil imports, but no legislation exists yet, so the price effect is distant.
