Many ethanol plants have temporarily stopped operating because of tight corn supply, rising basis and small-refinery waivers issued by the EPA. The Sioux Center, Iowa plant halted production in mid-September, and corn basis rose $0.05 to $0.15 per bushel in September in its area.
Lower ethanol output reduces corn grind and DDGS supply, which tightens feed co-product availability and supports local corn basis.
