Rabobank says global pork prices are still rising and have hit records in some regions, with the Five-Nation Hog Price Index in October approaching its July 2017 high of 130. Record US slaughter is depressing producer returns, while China is rebuilding its herd after losing about 55% of hogs to ASF.
Tight global pork supply from ASF supports hog prices and protein demand through year-end, though China's herd rebuilding may eventually ease the shortage.
