Physical US natural gas spot prices spiked to some of their highest levels on record as an Arctic air mass pushed heating demand sharply higher across North America. Spot gas at several hubs traded above $300 per million Btu, with peaks near $400.
Extreme heating demand and supply disruptions raise feed-grain drying and energy costs, and can lift corn and ethanol-related input costs through higher natural gas prices.
